Preschool has fun lesson with Scranton Police
By: Ruth Gerrity
Nellie Noschese’s Preschool students have been busy learning about Community Helpers. Our Preschoolers had an opportunity to meet two real policemen when Sergeant Pat Gerrity, son of Ruth Gerrity, a Speech-Language Pathologist at The Scranton School, and Officer Joe Harris of the Scranton Police Department came to visit. Our students, wearing their own police hats and badges, tested handcuffs and flashlights, felt how strong a bullet-proof vest is and asked lots of questions.
They learned that Police Officers are our friends and help people when they are afraid, lost, or in trouble. Most importantly, the students learned NEVER to touch a gun, and if they see one, to tell Mom or Dad, their teacher or a policeman. The most exciting part of the visit came at the end, when each student was given a police badge and had a chance to sit behind the wheel of a real police car with flashing lights. Wow! Those sirens are LOUD!!!
