NEW Director for 2011-2012 School Year

The Scranton School is happy to announce the hiring of a new Director for the 2011-2012 school year.

Mrs. Rebecca Gaw, currently serving as principal at the Iowa School for the Deaf, has varied experiences in deaf education at schools in Tennessee, Oklahoma and Iowa. The hiring of Mrs. Gaw culminates an exhaustive, three month national search.

“Rebecca Gaw is a highly respected educator and her superior references are among the best I have seen in almost 40 years in the profession”, stated Donald E. Rhoten, CEO of The Scranton School and The Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, “She is well known as a ‘child-centered’ educator and an outstanding communicator with students, parents, colleagues and the community. We are very pleased that Rebecca will be guiding our students to reaching their fullest potential.”

In addition to extensive professional certifications, Mrs. Gaw has served on the Western Community College Interpreting Training Advisory Board, the PEPNet Council and the Law Conference Planning Committee in Iowa.

Rebecca Gaw will assume the position of Director at The Scranton School on July 6, 2011. She will replace Mrs. Cathy Rhoten who has held the title of Interim Director since the school’s inception in 2009.
