Middle School Students Visit Gettysburg
Middle School students from The Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf and The Scranton School met in Gettysburg on Wednesday, May 4th, to receive a “first hand” learning experience. Students from Intermediate Units 18 and 12 also met with our students to benefit from this wonderful opportunity.
When both buses, one with WPSD students and the other with IU 18 and our students, met in Gettysburg, they headed toward the Recreation Park and Pavilions where they set up for lunch. IU 12′s students arrived shortly after to complete the group.
After lunch, the group headed for the Gettysburg museum to spend some time reading and learning. After the museum, the students and staff boarded the buses again and headed toward the battlefield where they were met by their tour guide, who explained the battlefield in depth.
The students ended their day with a visit to General Lee’s Headquarters Museum. At the end of the Gettysburg tour, some of the students drove to the WPSD/SSDHHC Outreach Center in Camp Hill for a pizza party before making their way back home.
The day was not only an opportunity for first hand learning, but a lot of fun too.
